Day by Day Itinerary

1

Day 1: Nairobi – Samburu National Reserve

  • 06:30 – 07:30: Pickup from Nairobi hotel or airport; safari briefing with guide.

  • 07:30 – 12:30: Scenic drive north through central Kenya highlands, with photo stops at escarpments and rural villages.

  • 12:30 – 13:30: Arrival at Samburu Lodge or Camp; lunch.

  • 14:30 – 18:30: Afternoon game drive in Samburu National Reserve to spot:

    • Northern species: Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Somali ostrich

    • Predators: lions, leopards, cheetahs

    • Elephants and buffaloes along rivers and savannah

  • 18:30 – 19:30: Return to lodge, optional sundowner photography.

  • 19:30: Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Full Day Samburu National Reserve

  • 06:00 – 09:00: Sunrise game drive—best for predators and birdwatching.

    • Birds: vultures, kingfishers, eagles

    • Mammals: elephants, lions, cheetahs

  • 09:00 – 10:00: Breakfast at lodge.

  • 10:00 – 12:30: Optional guided bush walk to track wildlife signs and learn about plants.

  • 12:30 – 13:30: Lunch at lodge or bush picnic.

  • 14:00 – 17:30: Afternoon game drive exploring riverine areas and savannah plains:

    • Hippos and crocodiles at Ewaso Ng’iro river

    • Gerenuk feeding on acacia trees

    • Elephant herds bathing in waterholes

  • 17:30 – 19:30: Return to lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Samburu – Lake Nakuru National Park

  • 06:30 – 07:30: Breakfast and check-out.

  • 07:30 – 12:30: Drive south to Lake Nakuru through central Kenyan highlands; stop at scenic viewpoints along the Rift Valley escarpment.

  • 12:30 – 13:30: Lunch at Lake Nakuru Lodge.

  • 14:00 – 18:00: Afternoon game drive:

    • Flamingos along the alkaline lake shores

    • Black and white rhinos

    • Rothschild giraffes, zebras, impalas

    • Lions and leopards near riverine forests

  • Optional photography stop at Baboon Cliff.

  • 19:00: Dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru – Lake Naivasha

  • 06:30 – 07:30: Optional early morning game drive in Lake Nakuru.

  • 08:00 – 09:00: Breakfast at lodge.

  • 09:00 – 11:30: Drive to Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake in the Rift Valley surrounded by papyrus swamps and acacia trees.

  • 12:00 – 13:00: Lunch at lodge.

  • 14:00 – 17:00: Afternoon boat safari: hippos, fish eagles, kingfishers, and other waterbirds.

  • 16:00 – 17:00: walking safari on Crescent Island among giraffes, zebras, and antelopes.

  • 17:30 – 18:30: Return to lodge; optional sundowners and sunset photography.

  • 19:00: Dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Lake Naivasha – Maasai Mara National Reserve

  • 06:30 – 07:30: Breakfast and check-out.

  • 07:30 – 13:00: Scenic drive to Maasai Mara with photo stops along the Great Rift Valley escarpment.

  • 13:00 – 14:00: Lunch at lodge or camp.

  • 14:30 – 18:30: Afternoon game drive:

    • Big Five: lions, elephants, leopards, buffalo, rhinos

    • Plains game: wildebeest, zebras, gazelles

  • Optional evening sundowner experience on Mara plains.

  • 19:00: Dinner and overnight.

  • 12:30 – 13:30: Lunch at lodge.

  • 14:00 – 18:30: Afternoon game drive:

Day 8: Maasai Mara – Nairobi Departure

  • 15:00: Drop-off at Nairobi hotel, residence, or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
